November has been very busy for OUI Inc. Our CEO, Dr. Shimuzu, and Business Associate, Ms. Tozawa, participated in the Korean Ophthalmological Society’s annual conference, for the first time. Additionally, Mr. Nishimura, a Certified Orthoptist (CO) in the medical team at OUI Inc., presented at four academic conferences in Japan.
The Korean Ophthalmological Society 2023, the largest ophthalmology conference in South Korea, took place from November 23rd in Seoul. Dr. Shimuzu and Ms. Tozawa met with an ophthalmologist who is using our Smart Eye Camera for bedridden patients. The doctor praised our Smart Eye Camera’s ability to not only observe the anterior segment of the eye but also to record and document it. He finds these features extremely convenient. Additionally, a visit to a veterinary ophthalmologist, to discuss the potential for deploying our Smart Eye Camera in the field. On the third day, Dr. Shimizu gave a presentation on developing artificial intelligence to detect corneal opacity using the portable ‘Smart Eye Camera.’ This talk led to fruitful interactions with corneal specialists.
Mr. Nishimura also made significant contributions in November. At the Japan Academy of Ophthalmic Nursing, Japan Telemedicine and Telecare Association, Japan Orthoptic Congress, and Japan Association for Medical Informatics, he focused on ophthalmic home healthcare and telemedicine. He addressed the underutilization of ophthalmic home healthcare, noting its prevalence in over 60% of home healthcare cases in developed countries. Mr. Nishimura stressed the need for interdisciplinary collaboration, showcasing our Smart Eye Camera in various telemedicine models, including an innovative approach where orthoptists are directly involved in patient care (Doctor to Patient with Certified Orthoptist). This initiative aims to enhance early detection of ophthalmic diseases and expand ophthalmic home healthcare, given the growing number of patients due to the aging national population.
Through these presentations, we successfully showcased the potential of our device to a broad audience in South Korea and Japan. OUI Inc. is committed to continuing our collaboration with medical professionals in all over the countries, focusing on developing innovative ophthalmic diagnostic models with our Smart Eye Camera.
