In August-September 2025, we conducted an ophthalmic screening campaign in Mandvi, Gujarat, India, in collaboration with the charity organization DivyaJyoti Trust. This region uses indigenous tribal languages and has limited access to healthcare and education. We set up a simple ophthalmology clinic using local school classrooms, conducting screenings that included vision and refraction tests, as well as blood pressure and blood glucose measurements. Additionally, teams of young optometrists and students conducted daily examinations while touring the villages. Currently, traveling to hospitals in urban areas requires several hours round trip, making the burden of visiting them extremely high. Due to the strong ultraviolet environment, eye diseases such as pterygium are also common, reaffirming the importance of conducting screenings directly in the community.
