In May 2024, Ms. Ishimaru, a medical student from Keio University’s School of Medicine and an intern at OUI Inc., visited Smart Eye Camera users across Japan.
Visited Locations:
– Hinata Home Clinic (Miyazaki Prefecture)
– Doctor Gon Clinic (Miyako Island)
– Esaka Matsuoka Eye Clinic (Osaka Prefecture)
– Sarufutsu Village National Health Insurance Hospital (Hokkaido)
At each facility, Ms. Ishimaru engaged in direct conversations with the local doctors, nurses, and orthoptists, deepening collaboration with the local healthcare professionals. They also exchanged views on the optimal use of Smart Eye Camera in the field.
In home healthcare and general practice settings, there are many cases where the elderly and bedridden patients find it difficult to visit an eye clinic. By using our Smart Eye Camera, it is possible to perform specialized ophthalmic diagnoses on the spot during home visits, enabling early treatment. This is particularly important in remote islands like Miyakojima, where the number of ophthalmic specialists is limited, highlighting the importance of initial diagnoses and screenings. Our Smart Eye Camera can capture and upload high-resolution videos in real-time, allowing remote consultations with ophthalmic specialists and facilitating swift diagnoses. For example, in Japan’s northernmost village, the Sarufutsu Village, there is only one medical facility. So, the patients requiring ophthalmic examinations would be referred to a hospital in Wakkanai City, a location one-hour drive away. After the introduction of our Smart Eye Camera, unnecessary referrals have been reduced by making initial diagnoses quickly with ease, and determining treatment plans in collaboration with ophthalmic specialists.
At Esaka Matsuoka Eye Clinic, our Smart Eye Camera has been highly evaluated for contributing to improved diagnostic efficiency. Particularly in orthokeratology fittings, it has enabled the rapid examination of a larger number of patients.
Through this visit, we were able to directly observe the utilization of our Smart Eye Camera in various locations, experience its effectiveness firsthand, and identify further possibilities and challenges. OUI Inc. will continue to strengthen collaboration with healthcare professionals across regions and strive to improve the quality of ophthalmic care worldwide through our Smart Eye Camera. More regions and medical institutions are planned for future visits, and we will continue to promote the use of Smart Eye Camera. Please feel free to keep up to follow our future developments!
